London's Heathrow Airport is approximately 15 miles from downtown London, but the trip to or from the airport can take much longer depending on which transportation method you choose. Find out the best way to get from Heathrow Airport to London with this roundup of transportation options.

1. Heathrow Express - The Best Option

The fastest way to get to downtown London from Heathrow is via the Heathrow Express, a direct train running from Heathrow Central and Terminal 5 approximately every 15 minutes. The trip to Paddington Station takes about 15 minutes as well. Trains are comfortable, air-conditioned and Wi-Fi enabled.

Cost:The standard single fare is £16.50 and standard return costs £32.

2. Heathrow Connect - Faster and Cheaper than Taxis

More economical than the Express train, but also a little slower, is Heathrow Connect, another rail option for traveling from Heathrow to downtown London. With stops at five central London stations, the trip can take up to 30 minutes, with departures every half hour.

Cost:Single fares are £4.90 to £6.90, depending on station stop.

3. Taxis - Expensive Comfort

If you have lots of unwieldy luggage or require door-to-door service, you can easily catch a taxi outside of any terminal at Heathrow. The journey takes anywhere between 30 minutes to one hour, depending on traffic.

Cost: A single trip will cost between £40 and £70.
