If you are headed overseas for extended business, you may find that having an International Driver License makes things easier. Here's how to apply for one:

Here's How:
- Download the International Driver License Application from the IDL website.
- Print the application, fill out the appropriate sections, and sign at the bottom.
- Attach one passport-sized photo to the application.
- Attach a copy of your valid U.S. driver's license.
- Make out money order or check payable to AA Auto Association - IDL Service.
- Mail application along with the photo and copy of your valid driver's license to:

Tips:
- Applying to IDL online will shorten this process dramatically. You will have to upload a passport photo, a copy of your valid U.S. driver's license and a copy of your signature before you start.
- When driving with an International Driver License, you must (by law) carry your U.S. license, as well.
- Make sure to consider all fees and choose the best option for your needs (e.g., a one-year permit costs $35 and a ten-year permit is $75).
