The Bottom Line

The Hampton Inn in White Plains (Elmsford/Tarrytown) is convenient to New York City as well, if you want a lower-priced hotel without parking fees where you can travel into New York City for the day. It's also conveniently located off of Interstate 287, although it's important to verify the address if you're using a GPS, as it can be difficult to find. While the hotel isn't perfect, it's a reasonable choice. All in all, the Hampton Inn, White Plains is decent option for people doing business near White Plains or who want to save some money compared to a New York City hotel.

Guide Review - Review of the Hampton Inn, White Plains, New York

The Hampton Inn White Plains is pretty much a middle-of-the-road chain motel. It's nice, but not perfect. It's reasonably priced, but not cheap. It's has some nice touches (like free Wi-Fi, a pool, and the traditional generous Hampton Inn breakfast of cereal, fruit, bagels, toast, muffins, several hot items, juice, coffee, and tea), but it's also a little uneven (the desk clerk was surly over the phone when asked for directions, and some parts of the hotel have a kind of worn feel).

It's located halfway in between Tarrytown and White Plains, and close to nearby companies such as Bayer, Ciba Specialty Chemicals Corp, Hitachi, Kraft Foods and PepsiCo. It's convenient to major highways and the Westchester Airport, although make sure to check your directions before leaving, as there are a number of highways intersecting nearby and it can be tricky to find.

While it was recently renovated, it's still a little shaggy around some of its edges—the carpet in my room wasn't as fresh as I would have expected and the elevators seemed banged up. However, the hotel does have free Wi-Fi, as well as a decent breakfast to get you going. In addition, there are a variety of restaurants in the area, if you need lunch or dinner.

The hotel's business center is small but adequate.

In all, this hotel is definitely fine for business travelers who need a reasonable place to stay near New York City or White Plains. It's not up to the other Hampton Inn hotels I've seen recently, but it's perfectly adequate if your budget and destination requirements dictate a stay in the area.
