Washington DC Business Travel - Cityguide for Washington DC

From About.com

The recent elections have put a spotlight on the nation's capital, and rightly so. Washington, D.C. is a major destination for business travelers looking for great hotels, first-class dining, and convenient transportation options.

  • Airline

Washington, D.C.'s has two major airports: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Dulles International Airport (IAD). Reagan National Aiport is located in Arlington, VA and is 4 miles from the capital. Dulles International Airport is located in Dulles, VA and is 26 miles from downtown Washington, D.C. Either option is good for travelers, but Reagan is closer and is even on The Metrorail.

  • Transportation

Washington, D.C. is one of the best cities in the world for getting around. Besides plentiful taxis and private cars, the nation's capital has its own subway system called The Metrorail. The Metrorail is very easy to navigate, and first-time users will find it user-friendly. Simply grab a map and purchase an individual Metropass to start zipping around under the capital. I always use the Metrorail when I visit D.C. on business, and I save a ton of time and money by avoiding taxis.

  • Hotels and Conventions

The Washington Convention Center is located in the heart of Washington, D.C. The convention center boasts 2.3 million square feet of space and convenient access to restaurants, museums and attractions. The brisk convention business and tourist traffic have created a huge hospitality market. There are several top-notch hotels from which to choose. Check here for my personal recommendations.

  • Dining

If you were to assume that the nation's capital - a world destination - would have first-class restaurants . . . you would be right! Some great restaurants in the area include Charlie Palmer's (Capitol Hill), Bangkok 54 (Arlington), Etete (downtown DC) and Zed's (Georgetown).

Washington, D.C. is a city with many amenities and offerings for business travelers. If you're in the city on business, try these suggestions and see for yourself. You'll see why this city is the seat of power for our nation.
