New Orleans Business Travel: New Orleans Cityguide for Business Travelers

New Orleans Business Travel

From About.com

With the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina upon us, I have been thinking about my family and my hometown of New Orleans a lot recently. As a native New Orleanian, I know what a great city it is, and I know what it can offer business travelers. I urge you to take advantage of New Orleans for your next convention or business meeting.

  • Airline

New Orleans' major airport is Louis Armstrong International Airport. The airport may have suffered damage last year during Katrina, but it is now fully operational and accepting flights from all major airlines.

  • Transportation

Because of New Orleans' continued tourist trade, hotel shuttles and taxis are plentiful. One of the great things about New Orleans is that if you can rent a car, you can get just about anywhere in about 20 minutes.

  • Hotels and Conventions

The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center officially reopened for business in June 2006.

Hospitality has always been one of New Orleans' key industries, and there is no shortage of hotels from which to choose. It seems that a new hotel opens or reopens in the city constantly. Some personal recommendations include The Windsor Court Hotel, and the Intercontinental Hotel New Orleans. Check here for a listing of New Orleans' hotels open for business.

  • Dining

If you want to eat well . . . come on, this is New Orleans! There are lots of great places to eat. Restaurants have opened, re-opened and continue to open as the city continues its rebuilding efforts. There are several great places for business lunches or dinners. Check these out and don't forget 7 on Fulton, Brennan's Restaurant, and Muriel's on Jackson Square.

New Orleans has entertained scores of conventions and business travelers for years. As the city continues its rebuilding efforts, it will continue to get better, but now is the time to plan a sales meeting and enjoy hospitality like no other city offers.
