Logan International Airport is the largest airport in New England. Located approximately 4 miles from downtown Boston, the business traveler has numerous options for getting to - and from - Logan International. Learn which transportation is best for business travel with this handy cheat-sheet.

1. Taxis - Convenience at a Reasonable Cost

Catch a taxi outside each terminal's Arrivals area (follow signs from baggage claim). Journey time to downtown Boston is 20-30 minutes.

Cost: Service from Logan to downtown Boston can cost anywhere from $20-$45. For destinations beyond a 12-mile radius of downtown Boston, a flat rate system will apply, so be sure to secure your rate first.

Pros: Cabs are plentiful and you'll get door-to-door service in a fairly speedy manner without having to navigate subway, train or bus routes.

Cons: Depending on traffic, the trip can take well over an hour. Also, during rush hour or inclement weather, cabs can be hard to come by.

2. Car Service - Expensive Comfort

If you need door-to-door service, don't want to wait in a line, and have an expense account, then a car service is the most convenient - and comfortable - way to travel.

Cost: Depending on the company, a luxury sedan to/from downtown Boston will generally cost somewhere between $60 and $80 each way, plus any tolls and tip.

Pros: Service can be pre-arranged (and prepaid), and your ride will be comfortable and hassle-free. Using a car service can save time, as you won't have to wait in cab lines.

Cons: Traffic can be a factor and cost is higher than a cab.

3. Shuttle - Door-to-Door Bargain

If you are lucky, your hotel will offer a free shuttle service to/from Logan, but you can still arrange for a shared van service directly with a local shuttle vendor. Good if you are traveling in a group, or still want door-to-door service at a cheaper price than a car or taxi.

Cost: Depending on which shuttle company you hire, the ride will cost $15 to $20. .

Pros: Door-to-door service at an affordable price. No navigation required. Online and advance reservations. Great for groups. Many large chain hotels in the city have shuttle arrangements.

Cons: Trip will usually take longer than a cab or taxi, as the shuttle may make a few pick-up stops before heading to airport.

4. Public Transportation - Reliable and Cheap

The MBTA Silver Express Bus and Blue Subway Line are both available from Logan. The Silver line connects easily with the commuter rail at South Station, while the Blue Line connects downtown Boston (Government Center) with the airport. Trains and buses are generally available frequently from 5:00 am until 12:30 am. Get more public transportation information here. Cost: $2

Pros: Speedy service, no traffic or weather delays. Bargain price. No need to drive on confusing Boston streets!

Cons: You'll have to make at least one transfer and pay attention to stops. Dealing with your luggage may be cumbersome.
