On my first trip to New York, my new clients told me to avoid the subway. Being from another city, I would almost certainly get mugged, lost or stranded in some strange part of Manhattan. A really good friend of mine (who was from New York) urged me to take the subway to make my meetings. He said "They just think you're green. Taking the subway will get you anywhere you need to go quickly and cheaply." I took his advice and I never regretted it. Thanks to him, I always take the subway in New York, the Metro in D.C., and the Underground in London.
