Rental Cars Get High-Tech: New Technology Offerings in Rental Cars
Wednesday January 24, 2007
Dirty, nicked and scuffed . . . those are the three words I would use to describe my first rental car. It was a white Ford Taurus, and it had been around a few blocks before I leased it. The car had a radio and a CD player, but it was a far cry from the vehicle I was used to driving. Well, times are changing and companies are starting to offer more high-tech offerings in rental cars. Portable wireless access? Electronic toll payment? These are just some of the offerings becoming available for business travelers.

Wireless?! Be still my heart! I didn’t know that — I’m getting it next time I rent a car. Would cut down hugely on war driving.
I think you need to watch out with some of the technology. When I used to be a consumer reporter, I heard complaints from a couple people that they rented cars with GPS. The fine print of the contract said they would get a steep fine for speeding. They assumed that meant getting a ticket… nope the GPS unit was able to tell.
