Family Lanes Open to Ease Holiday Travel
Wednesday November 12, 2008
To ease holiday travel lines, the TSA recently announced that designated "family lanes" will be opening at every airport in the U.S. by November 20th. Those traveling with children, as well as passengers with liquids in excess of the 3-1-1 limits, will be encouraged to use these lanes in the hopes of easing security backlog. This is good news for business travelers during the holidays, provided that people self-select themselves into the right lane (I've seen a lot of abuse of the so-called "expert lanes" in airports). It won't make up the for the fact that we have to be away from our families this time of year, but speeding through security might just help us get back to them a little less stressed out. Safe travels!

For entertainment, select carefully and keep what you bring to a minimum. If you bring a big bag of stuff, you can easily spend the entire trip keeping track of it all and, really, the last thing you need while traveling is another heavy bag to lug around. Willa has a collection of plastic animal figures, and I usually buy a couple of new ones before a trip and present one to her every hour or so. Each one delights and keeps her busy at least long enough for me to get through half a magazine article.
