Delta and Northwest Merger Spells New Fees

Thursday November 6, 2008
The Delta-Northwest merger became official last week, and many of us have been anticipating the end of Delta's free checked baggage as a result. Well, my friends, the end is here. Effective immediately, all flights occurring on or after December 5th will incur a $15 fee for the first piece of checked luggage, and $50 for a second bag. The news from the merger isn't all bad, however, as Delta has immediately ceased fuel surcharges for awards flights booked with SkyMiles or WorldPerks (you can even get your money back if you've booked a trip with miles and have already paid this surcharge). As with other airlines, elite travelers are exempt from the baggage fees.

For more details on the new fees, visit the Delta website.
