Packing Light and Working Smart

Thursday November 17, 2005
I recently flew to New York for three days of heavy negotiations, but I resolved to only pack two bags. (Stubbornness is my hallmark. Just ask my wife.)

I wanted to pack my navy blue suit, the one that projects confidence and unparalleled charisma. However, bringing the suit meant I would have to lug a garment bag in addition to my suitcase and computer bag. Forget the fact that bringing the power suit meant my black deerskin loafers would have to squeeze in with my brown dress shoes and my tennis shoes (walking in the city can be hard on my feet).

For most trips, packing light and staying professional can be a challenge. Here are a few steps you can take to pack light and travel fast.
